What is a typical menstrual period like?

During your period, you shed the thickened uterine lining and extra blood through the vagina. Your period may not be the same every month. It may also be different than other women's periods. Periods can be light, moderate, or heavy in terms of how much blood comes out of the vagina. This is called menstrual flow. The length of the period also varies.

To bring back balance and restore what a normal cycle should be the use of various organic herbs have been combined in special proprietary layers.

At the beginning of your cycle follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is produced by the pituitary gland in your brain. This is the main hormone involved in stimulating your ovaries to produce mature eggs. Follicles are the fluid-filled cavities in your ovaries. Each follicle contains one undeveloped egg. The FSH stimulates many follicles to develop and start to produce the hormone estrogen. Your level of estrogen is at its lowest on the first day of your period. From then on, it starts to increase as the follicles grow.

Now while many follicles initially begin to develop, normally one follicle becomes “dominant” and this egg matures within the enlarging follicle. At the same time, the increasing amount of estrogen in your body makes sure that the lining of your womb is thickening with nutrients and blood. This is so that if you do get pregnant, the fertilized egg will have all the nutrients and support it needs to grow. High estrogen levels are also associated with the appearance of ‘sperm-friendly’ mucus (or, to give it its technical name, fertile cervical mucus). You may notice this as a thin, slippery discharge that may be cloudy white. Sperm can swim more easily through this mucus and can survive in it for several days.

The level of estrogen in your body is still increasing and it eventually causes a rapid rise in luteinizing hormone (the ‘LH surge’). This LH surge causes the dominant follicle to rupture and release the mature egg from the ovary, from where it enters the Fallopian tube. This process is known as ovulation.

Many women think that they ovulate on day 14, but 14 is an average, and most women will ovulate on a different day of the menstrual cycle. Your day of ovulation will vary from cycle to cycle. Some women claim to feel a twinge of pain when they ovulate, but many feel no sensation at all and there’s no other sign that you are ovulating.

This herbal tincture is crafted from:

Vitex Berry-

Vitex Agnus Castus has been proven in scientific studies to help women overcome hormonal imbalance. Although some women (such as those who are pregnant) are advised against taking Vitex Agnus Castus, it can help with problems such as: PMS (premenstrual syndrome), PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and menopause. Furthermore, it can also help women with their fertility and ovulation.  Vitex Agnus Castus works because it contains compounds that interact with the Pituitary glands. These compounds cause the pituitary glands to increase their production of luitnizing hormones, and decrease the production of follicle stimulating hormones. This then has the indirect effect of causing the body to increase its production of progesterone hormones.

Furthermore, Vitex Agnus Castus is not only a useful plant for women hoping to boost their libido levels it also helps women to have more regular ovulation.

Stinging Nettle-

Also used in the tincture is , known as Urtica dioica L., commonly known as stinging nettle (SN), isannual wild growing plant from Urticaceae botanical family. This plant is widely known for its extraordinary biological activity and beneficial effect on human health. Fresh stinging nettle has been used for flailing arthritic or paralytic limbs stimulating circulation and warmth the joints and extremities. This treatment is known as urtication.  Different studies demonstrated antioxidant, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, and analgesic properties of SN extracts.  For women, Nettle Root can minimize harmful estrogen metabolites in the body. Some sex hormones undergo a process called aromatization where the end products are implicated as primary causative factors in several types of cancer, including hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer and uterine cancer. Decreasing levels of these estrogen metabolites have shown beneficial both in assisting prevention of cancer as well as an adjunct therapy.  Clinically, and for a broader audience, more and more herbalists are using Nettle Root to treat polycystic ovarian syndrome/disorder, known as PCOS or PCOD.

Wild Yam Root-

Wild Yam's traditional use is for easing menstrual cramps. Its antispasmodic property is beneficial for any kind of muscular spasm and colic, such as intestinal and bilious colic, flatulence, ovarian and uterine pain; for poor circulation and neuralgia; for the inflammatory stage of rheumatoid arthritis; and for abdominal and intestinal cramping. Wild Yam can be very beneficial for nervousness, restlessness and other nervous conditions.

As a stimulant for increased bile flow, it can help to relieve hepatic congestion, bilious colic and gallstones.  Its steroidal saponins are also anti-inflammatory, making it a useful herb when treating rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory conditions of the bowel. Its diuretic effect, combined with the antispasmodic action, soothes painful conditions of the urinary tract.

Wild yam contains alkaloids, steroidal saponins, tannins, phytosterols and starch.

The University of Maryland Medical Center tells us that because of its antispasmodic properties, wild yam is often used to relieve menstrual cramps and pain from endometriosis.
